Cameron Price was approached by a prestigious, undisclosed tier one British automotive company to supply water pump housing parts via injection moulding. 

The customer required 20,000 of these parts, produced to incredibly tight tolerances, and selected us as a partner due to our extensive automotive plastic injection moulding experience.

Project

Once the project was agreed, Cameron-Price designed and produced an initial prototype for the client via 3D CAD design. This allowed them to inspect the part and review it for manufacturing and engineering feasibility. 

The final design of the product required production to strict tolerances, with a circularity of 0.10mm and flatness of 1.0mm. 

As part of our ongoing aim to be a full service provider, and utilising our experience and expertise in the industry, we were able to advise and oversee supplier selection, contract negotiation and approval for procured parts.  The client also required PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) to level 3 within 16 weeks, and we were able to provide this.

One of the benefits Cameron-Price offers to all clients is adaptability and a drive to add value via innovation. To that end, an LCC injection mould tool was designed and manufactured for the process. As well as this, we also designed a new process to heat stake brass threaded inserts post-moulding to achieve the desired results.

Following the production and supply of the product, the client then requested further designs. Since then, Cameron-Price has produced a range of impellers and pump housing for the client, nurturing a close and productive long-term relationship.
